Working within the basic framework of the Total Control Music System, the elements
of modern Bluegrass mandolin playing are explored, along with specifics of performing
them. Specifics related to various styles of playing are also studied: Students will learn
correct right-hand technique, the Monroe "chop"; crosspicking (the MacReynolds roll);
correct left-hand technique and chord forms; how to build accompaniments and/or
solos in the styles of different players. We'll look at the way the mandolin works with
the bass in a Bluegrass band to create a rhythm section and to
keep time. Finally,
there will be study of the music and styles of specific artists and/or other material
of the student's choosing
